ABOUT US

ABOUT US

LIVE'S IMPROVEMENT

In 2011 we decided to move from the noise and the stress of the streets in Barcelona up to the mountains of Norway, looking for wilderness. Since then we have lived in Valdres.

We drove up from Catalunya with a little car, our dog and a little trailer full of dreams.

For the last 6 years, stone by stone, we have been developing ourselves and our little company wearing, testing and developing the products together with colleagues experienced in different fields like wood, leather working, tailor and forging as the main subjects but also many friends’ help experienced as Artic guiders, traditional wooden ski makers, tailors and clothes designers, Ski instructors, dogsled racers, Ski patrols, etc.

At Takono we want to provide our customers with local and the highest quality outdoor products, our crafts are 100% hand made on limited production runs. And the most important, Made by us in Norway.

LIVE ENDURANCE

Elena

Sewing, production and Quality Control  Manager… in the end…she cuts, sews and checks each and every jumper. She is the common sence, the sweetness who makes all come true in the company with her love and care for all the things she makes…which is more than enough!

Elena was born in Barcelona in 1973. Educated as a nurse she started to work in 1995 in the Intensive Care Unit. After some years she met David, who was also working in the hospital after he came back from Ireland.

In 2006 she decided to take a step forward and volunteer as a nurse in Cameroon, a place that gave her a different perspective, not just on her education but also as a person.

A month later she was back, and all was different. She needed something more, so she took the chance to go for the Master degree of Surgery assisting Nurse.

Successfully achieved the Master then, she moved to the Emergency surgical theatres of Bellvitge Hospital. She work there for some years before to move to Norway.

In 2011 David, who moved up to Norway a year before, asked her about moving there together. After a lot of talking, Skypeing and planning they decided to take the step.

After 7 months of pregnancy, a full-loaded car and a trailer, they drove all the way up to Scandinavian lands for a new life.

For the first year as a mother and having time to practice sewing some prototypes of the jumpers and other items, she decided to find a job. For 3 years she was happily working in Booking Service, where she had the opportunity to develop the language and tailor skills that allowed her to teach to David much of her knowledge.

Currently she works as a Nurse in Valdres and helping out at Takono…of course!

David

Craftman Designer, blacksmith, welder, musician, wood and leather work…-”At Takono we must know a bit of everything right?”

David was born in Barcelona in 1981. Never too interested in studying or being at school, he was always distracted by outdoor sports and activities.

At the age of 19 he debut as a model for a small agency, filling up the time gaps that the main job, as a ski and mountain gear seller, allowed him to do.

After 2 years he decided to leave it all behind and move to Ireland to discover the world, away from the comfort of the family home. After busking in the streets of Galway City and working here and there, he came back to Barcelona after a year, where he started to work in a hospital as a porter in the surgical area.

In 2007 he became a Commercial diver together with welding & burning education in Spain, which allowed him to find a work in the TBMs (Tunnel Boring Machine) of Barcelona.

In 2010 he moved to Scotland to get his International Commercial diving qualification in Fort William, where the jumper design took place. After graduating he came back to Barcelona where he found job as a welder, while trying to find work as an offshore diver.

Meanwhile his interests in dogsledding and Artic expeditions were taking place. Then, after a fortunate holiday trip to Norway, he was offered work for a dogsledding company in Beitostolen, where he was working the firsts months.

When the winter season started he found a place in the ski school for some years, and enjoy the perfect place to become outdoor and winter sports instructor.

As metal worker and passion for forging, wood and leather, he decided to figure out his craftsmanship skills and develop them side by side with his main work as ski instructor and musician.

Currently he is the manager of Takono.
